The most popular item at
HomePhoneWiring.com!
Because the
objective of this site is to help people save money by doing
their own telephone and DSL wiring, I searched and located a
DSL splitter product will meet almost everyone's needs and
that I can sell for over $10 less than the Wall-Mount/Desktop
DSL Splitter!
Indoor DSL Splitter includes three RJ-11 jacks
(LINE, MODEM, PHONE). It also has parallel screw terminals
which can be used instead of the modular jacks. Its small
size (0.9" H x 3.0" W x 2.0" D) makes it ideal for mounting
next to a wiring block or inside a residential "media
center". Holes at the top and bottom make it easy to mount
almost anywhere with two screws.
It is a "whole-house" splitter and not simply a fancy
microfilter.
This is the ideal splitter for all the DSL installation
options discussed on this site except those requiring
exterior installations or an interior installation in a
high-visibility area, where it is desired for the splitter to
replace a wall mount jack, or where it is desired to provide
access to a second voice line via a jack on the splitter.
This splitter can be used for DSL wiring installation
configurations discussed on pages An Overview of Wiring Requirements to Support
Residential DSL Service, DSL Splitter Installation in a Star Topology,
Installing the DSL
Splitter Near the DSL Modem/Router, and Installing A DSL Splitter
With An Alarm System.
Note: The screw terminals on this splitter are intended for
the connection of a single pair. If you have multiple voice
cables that you need to connect to this splitter, you'll need
some type of junction
device, such as a block, junction box, or screw terminal.

The ADSL2+ / VDSL2
Splitter is compatible with ADSL, but has improved filtering
for the entire 20kHz-30MHz frequency range for ADSL2+ or
VDSL2 used for Video over DSL applications such as IPTV
(Internet Protocol Television). If you are planning to use
ADSL2+ or VDSL2 immediately, this is the splitter you should
select. If you're only using ADSL now, but might switch to
ADSL2+ or VDSL2 in the foreseeable future, you might want to
spend a few extra dollars and purchase this splitter instead
of the PS-15 Indoor DSL Splitter.
ADSL2+ / VDSL2 DSL Splitter includes two RJ-11
jacks, for the LINE and PHONE connections and an 8P2C jack
(often referred to as RJ-45) for the MODEM connection.
(Either a 6P2C/RJ-11 or 8P2C/RJ-45 plug can be used in the
modem jack.) There are also parallel screw terminals which
can be used instead of the modular jacks. The housing is
basically the same as the Indoor DSL Splitter offered above
and is the same size (0.9" H x 3.0" W x 2.0" D) with mounting
holes at the top and bottom.
It is a "whole-house" splitter and not simply a fancy
microfilter.
This splitter can be used for DSL wiring installation
configurations discussed on pages An Overview of Wiring Requirements to Support
Residential DSL Service, DSL Splitter Installation in a Star Topology,
Installing the DSL
Splitter Near the DSL Modem/Router, and Installing A DSL Splitter

cables that you need to connect to this splitter, you'll need
some type of junction
device, such as a block, junction box, or screw terminal.

People living in areas
with a lot of lightning storms have requested a way to
provide additional surge protection for the equipment on
their DSL service. My solution is combining a Wilcom PS-11
NID Splitter with a TII 349-1MG Protector.
The Small Outdoor DSL Splitter with Additional
Surge Protection has a weather resistant exterior enclosure
that can be mounted on a wall. The incoming DSL service is
connected to the threaded posts on the protector module and
secured with nuts. Inside wiring is connected to the
"phone" and "ATU-R" (DSL modem) screw terminals on the
splitter signal.
Most whole-house splitters, including all those offered here,
provide some additional protection. Some folks would rather
be safe than sorry and have additional surge protection for
the expensive equipment connected to their DSL service.
This splitter/protector combination is the ideal answer for
that requirement.
The Small Outdoor DSL Splitter with Additional Surge
Protection contains a heavy duty protector module that
consists of a three-electrode gas tube surge arrester, a
failshort mechanism, and a backup airgap. This is the same
type device phone companies use for surge protection. To
provide surge protection, the ground stud must be connected
to a verified ground, such as a ground rod or metallic water
service entry pipe.
Take a look at the lightning density map at http://www.lightningsafety.com/nlsi_info/lightningmaps/US_FD_Lightning.pdf.
The map legend is marked in strikes per
year per square kilometer.

The purple areas on the map
(Tampa, Florida) average less than 820 feet between likely
strike locations!
If you live in any area that is purple or red
on this map, you should give serious consideration to using
this splitter/protector combination. That includes almost
everybody who lives in Florida! It's also probably a good
choice if you live in an area that is orange on this map.
This splitter can be used for DSL wiring installation
configurations discussed on pages An Overview of Wiring Requirements to Support

Wall-Mount/Desktop DSL Splitter includes
three RJ-11 jacks (DATA, LINE, VOICE) and center RJ-11
(VOICE) jack. It also has screw terminals inside which can
be used instead of the modular jacks.
This splitter can be wall-mounted on a single-gang electrical
box, wall-mounted as a stand-alone unit, or used as a desktop
unit. If you will be installing the splitter in a visible
location, this splitter may be preferable because the cover
conceals the wire connections to the screw terminals. The
mounting screws have "posts" which will allow a standard wall
mount phone to hang on the splitter instead of a wall mount
jack and connect to the voice side of the splitter via the
center RJ-11 jack. If the first appearance of your line
inside the house is at a kitchen wall phone, you may find
this splitter will suit your needs better than the Indoor
Splitter offered above. The VOICE jack on the bottom of the
splitter can be used to provide access to a second voice line
or to the voice side of the splitter if the connections are
change inside the case.
With An Alarm System.
