If
you have more than 11 station cables and limited space for
mounting your wiring hub, a 110 block kit may be a better
solution. This kit contains all the materials you need for
your telephone wiring hub/junction for a star topology with
up to 23 station cables. Includes one
100 pair 110 block with legs, label holders
with labels, and "c clip" connecting
blocks. Terminates up to 100 cable pairs (e.g. - one
4 pair to the NID and 23
4 pair station cables).
The kit includes 20 110C-4 Clips and 4 110C-5 Clips (to be
used in the last position of each row). If you're shopping,
make sure the other items you look at include the
"c clip" connecting blocks, since they make
up about half of the total cost of this kit. And remember
that this price includes shipping.
One of my pages provides Wiring Block Techniques and Tips. And unlike many
vendors, I do answer email questions from buyers that need
advice.
Ideally, you'll use a multi-pair punchdown tool to install
station cables and seat the "c clips".
Multi-pair punchdown
tools are offered for purchase or rental here. You would
use a single-wire 110 punchdown tool for installing
cross-connects. As an alternative, if you're careful, you
can also use a single-wire 110 punchdown tool to install the
station cables and seat the "c clips". To
seat the connecting blocks with a single-wire punchdown,
place the tool at the center of the clip and ensure that you
use very good alignment when you seat the connecting block
onto the 110 block base. If you aren't careful, you can
damage the block and the "c clip" connecting
block when seating the clips with a single-wire 110 punchdown
tool. You also might have to re-punch the ends of the
connecting blocks to get them to fully seat.

These are the same label holders include in
the 110 Block Wiring Hub Kit. These seem to be prone to
disappearing when they are removed to install new cables, but
a block is much easier to work with if it is properly
labeled. If you have a block with missing label holders or
just want some spares, you can order them here.
Sold in sets of six.
The holders
include the paper strips for hand written labeling, but if
you have MS Excel, you can download a four-pair 110 label
template here and print neat labels like those shown in
this photo
(Just cut them with a paper cutter or scissors). Right click
on the button below, select "Save target as...", and save the
template file to a location of your choice.

All
the materials you need for your telephone wiring hub/junction
for a star topology. Just add cable and time! Includes one
66 block (66M150), one 89B mounting bracket, two wire
management mushrooms, and eight bridge-clips. Terminates up
to 50 cable pairs (e.g. - one 4 pair to the
NID and eleven 4 pair station cables).
Punchdown tools for connecting wires on a 66 block can be
purchased or rented here.
This is the same block described at Wiring for a Third Phone Line and DSL Splitter Installation in a
Star Topology. Additional information on techniques for
use of this block is provided on this site at page: Wiring Block Techniques and
Tips. These blocks are compatible with the CAT5 wiring
techniques described on that page.
|
Most people still prefer the
more familiar original white 66 blocks.
|
|
However, EIA/TIA Standard 606A
recommends blue block fields or back boards for
station cables (cables to jacks) and 66 blocks are
available in blue to comply with that
standard.
|
So I am offering kits with
blocks in either color.
Choose whichever you prefer!
|
You may be able to match this price at your
local home improvement center, but they probably won't give
you a lot of advice on how to install it. Buy your hub kit
here and help support the web site that gave you all the
great advice about why and how to install it.

Translucent Plastic
66 Block Cover
CVR-66-TCV
$1.55
This cover must be
ordered with
a 66 Block Wiring Hub Kit.
|
This translucent cover snaps over the front
of a 66 block, much like the clear cover below. It is not
"clear as glass", but it does just as good a job of
protecting the connections from shorts.
Please only order this cover if your order includes at least
one 66 Block Wiring Hub Kit. However, you may order more
covers than block kits. If you aren't ordering a block kit
and need a cover for a block you already own or want a cover
you can see through clearly, please order the clear cover
below.

This clear cover (MC4) snaps over the front
of a 66 block and helps protect the connections from shorts.
This cover is completely transparent and allows visual
inspection of the wire connections on the block without
removing the cover. If you mount your block in a fairly well
protected location, you probably won't really need a cover.
However, this cover will also give your installation a more
"finished" appearance. If you mount your block in a location
where it is likely to be subject to objects coming in contact
with the block, I would definitely recommend you add a
cover.
I know this picture is not very useful - hopefully the
description will help. I'm a phone tech, not a
photographer. Taking pictures of something made of clear
plastic is a skill that I have not developed! I tried to
take a picture of the cover displayed on a block, but you
couldn't see it!

For that "professional" appearance!
For years people have asked me for jumper
wire, but changed their mind when I told them the cost of
spools holding one thousand feet of wire. They wanted the
"done by a professional" look of real cross-connect wire, but
didn't want to buy 1000 feet of wire and use less than 100
feet. They decided to accept a "Do-It-Yourself" substitute,
by foregoing real jumper wire and going through the trouble
of stripping wire pairs from lengths of cable to use instead
of real jumper wire. Now you don't have to make that
compromise!

After several recent requests, I
decided to build miniature spools and re-spool jumper wire in
100 feet lengths so that I could give my customers what they
want! (Aren't the little spools cute!) Each mini-spool has
approximately 100 ft of jumper ( +/- a few feet ).
If you want a full 1000 ft spool, you're welcome to order
that also, but you'll never need that much for a residential
job.

This site is
intended to provide help with phone wiring, but many people
installing their own phone cable are also installing their
own LAN cables and want a method to terminate them that is
less expensive than a fancy rack mount patch panel. This
Mini Patch Panel is the perfect solution. It provides an
inexpensive method of terminating 12 four-pair cables and
patching to a hub or router. It is suitable for 10BaseT or
100BaseT Ethernet.
The Mini Patch Panel will be a Suttle 2-7034-12 or
equivalent. The panel is mounted on an 89D mounting bracket
(included). That means the panel will mount in the same
space that a 66M150 block would occupy. The front of the
panel has twelve 8P8C jacks (8P8C jacks are commonly referred
to as RJ-45.) The back of the panel has twelve 110 type IDC
clips for termination of four-pair cables. Cables can be
terminated to EIA/TIA 568A or 568B standard by following the
color code labeling on the panel.
This panel can also be used to terminate phone cables that
need to be patched to a small key-system or PBX.
Punchdown tools for connecting wires on a 110 clips can be
purchased or rented here.
You can view Suttle's instruction for the 2-7034-12 at:
http://www.suttlesoho.com/catalog/pdfs/2-7034-12_inst.pdf.
This document shows the correct pinning for the connections
to the jacks.

These are the "Crimp Splice" connectors
described at Routing of Your Phone Cable - Splices, Taps, and
Junction Blocks (3M Scotch-lok connectors or similar by
different manufacturer.) As illustrated on that page, these
connectors can be used to splice on cable to extend to new
locations. They can also be used to connect a pair for
second line thru an outdoor splitter enclosure as illustrated
at Installing
the DSL Splitter Near the NID.
There are special crimp pliers available for these
connectors, but crimp splice connectors can also be closed
with standard "slip-joint" pliers.
UY connectors are two-wire splices and UR connectors are
three-wire splices. The wires are simply inserted in the UY
or UR connector (without stripping) and the connector is
closed to complete the connection.
UB "tap" connectors splice a new wire to an existing wire,
without cutting the existing wire. UB connectors are a newer
version of the old UG tap connector, but they work the same
way. The existing wire goes in a slot on one side of the UB
connector and the new wire goes in a hole on one end. Just
make sure that the original wire is correctly aligned in the
slot before crimping. UB connectors are a little more
"tricky" to learn to use than simple UY or UR connectors, but
once you master getting the wires in place, UB connectors are
ideal for adding to an existing installation.

This junction box provides an easy means to
connect four 4-wire cables to a modular jack. This junction
box will make it easy to connect up to four existing voice
cables to the voice jack on a Indoor DSL Splitter.
This box is easier to use than the Screw Terminal Indoor Connecting Block
because the modular plug at the end of the attached 12 inch
cord will connect directly to the voice jack on the splitter
and the cables to the jacks can be connected without removing
the insulation from each individual wire. However, if you
only have two or three inside wiring cables, you can save a
few dollars by using the Screw Terminal Indoor Connecting
Block instead.
If you have up to four inside
wiring cables that you need to splice together, this box is a
good solution. However, if you have more than four cables,
you'll need to use a different device, such as a 66 or 110
block. Don't try putting multiple wires in the wire slots in
the terminals on this box; the teeth of the terminals might
spread and not make a reliable connection.
Note: The box provides color coded connections for the second
voice pair, but be aware that most splitters (including those
sold here) do not connect the second pair thru the splitter.
To support a second line, the second pair from the NID would
need to connect to one of the available internal terminals,
leaving three for connection to jacks.

This small screw
terminal connecting block is very useful for splicing 4-pair
cables at an indoor location. If you have two or three
inside wiring cables that you need to splice together for
connection to an Indoor DSL Splitter,
this is the least expensive solution. However, if you have
more than three cables, it will be easier to use a 66 or 110
block than trying to deal with the "spider web" of wires that
would be created by trying to use a screw terminal connecting
block.
The screw terminal connecting block has a separate base and
cover. The base has four threaded brass seats for the screws
with washers. The cover attaches to the base with a
"captive" screw at the center of the cover.

This Outdoor Wiring Terminals
Enclosure is a TII model 163-01. It is an environmentally
protected two-pair wire terminal closure with terminal studs
to support binding/splicing two pairs from multiple telephone
cables at an outdoor location. This terminal enclosure can
be very useful if you need to make a splice to extend one or
more old cables from a point where they previously entered
the home to a new NID/splitter location. This box is an
ideal junction for use near the land line NID location if you
plan to use VoIP and have several cables that need to be
spliced to provide continuity from the VoIP Adapter to all of
the cables in the house.
The TII 163 is 4.18"H x 3.25"W x 1.87"D.
